Italy_Cassino War Cemetery & Monte Cassino Abbey

The Cassino War Cemetery lies in the Commune of Cassion, approximately 85 miles south-east of Rome. There are now over 4,000 Commonwealth servicemen of World War II buried or commemorated at Cassino War Cemetery. About half a mile above the Cemetery is the Abbey of Monte Cassino. The Abbey was founded by St. Benedict in about 529 and was reduced to a heap of debris during the final stage of World War II in 1944. Many additions and embellishments were made during reconstruction, though it was rebuilt according to the original ancient architectural plan.

Italy_Sorrento

Sorrento is a well-established tourist stopover with a great choice of grand hotels and interesting restaurants. Local souvenirs include beautiful marquetry, pictures created with inlaid wood. Of course another souvenir favorite is the yellow lemon liqueur, limoncello. Many tourists and fisherman travel from the harbors of Sorrento, fishing craft fill the old Marina Grande Harbor while ferries travel to Capri and Naples from the more central Marina Piccola.

Capri, where the water glows turquoise in the sunlight and the views are magnificent. Capri's Piazzetta Square is filled with designer shops and restaurants. A switchback road leads to the quieter, white-washed village of Anacapri.

Italy_Amalfi Coast

The Amalfi Coast is a 50 mile stretch of southern coast between Positano and Salerno. A zig-zag road along jagged cliffs links villages where houses seem to cling to the hillsides. The incredibly narrow roads lead to steeply terraced fields, overflowing with a bounty of vines, olives and citrus fruits.
